Why is a smiling white lady always the mascot? 'Cause in my experience, usually they're like the first to snap.

"Rebranding" is the twelfth episode of Season Two of Superstore, and the twenty-third episode of the show overall.

Summary[]

VP Rex brings a rebranding and is part of Jonah's past, Dina hunts a snitch, Cheyenne hides discounted products.

Plot[]

Kelsey

Kelsey, the new Cloud 9 Spokesperson.

In the Break Room, Jeff Sutin is showing the staff a video about the new Cloud 9 brand SuperCloud which is replacing "Halo". Jonah asks what the difference is and it appears to be name only. Jeff tries to get everyone excited by playing a song. (♫ 2 Unlimited - Get Ready For This ♫) He also announces a corporate VP will be visiting the store. Sandra asks about a cardboard stand-up of the new Cloud 9 spokesperson Kelsey. Cheyenne points out that instead of a white woman, the spokesperson should have been a superhero with a cape and cloud muscles which Jeff agrees would have been better.

That's a lot of hand gestures.

In the store, Garrett tells Amy, Dina and Mateo that Jeff and the VP Rex are coming. Mateo tries to recover from a remark he makes about Jeff's cuteness. Rex is very energetic and uses lots of hand gestures to try and get everyone excited about the brand launch. Seeing a messy display, Jeff ties into Dina for not managing it properly. Dina takes her frustration out on Elias. The Halo products are deeply discounted but Cheyenne can't buy nor set any of the baby items aside while she's working. As Jonah deals with a customer, Rex recognizes him from their college days. Jonah explains how he ended up working at the store and Rex starts to tell Amy about Jonah in college including his nickname "Iceman".

S02E11-College Jonah

College Jonah.

In the Break Room, Dina disses Jeff to a number of staff, calls him an "asshat" and Mateo overcompensates and says he wishes he was dead. Rex shows a video of Jonah making a business presentation in college which evokes a lot of teasing from Glenn, Amy and Garrett. Cheyenne watches with concern as a customer stocks up on the Halo baby items. (♫ Gladys Knight and the Pips - Neither One of Us ♫) In confidence, Mateo tells Jeff that he's being too hard on the staff and mentions Dina's insult. The teasing of Jonah reaches a head and he turns off the TV. Rex mentions that Jonah's enrollment is still active and he can go back to school. This brings concern from Amy and Glenn.

S02E11-Dina vows revenge

Does any else hear ringing

Jeff checks a display Dina is overseeing and compliments her. He apologies for being harsh earlier and asks that if anyone has a problem with him, to tell him and he mentions Dina's Break Room insult specifically. Dina knows there is a snitch and vows to deal with the person. In Glenn's Office, Jonah is asked by Glenn to sign a new contract which he finds has a 30 year term. Glenn gets frantic when Jonah won't sign even promising to fire others to keep him. Dina asks for Mateo's help on finding the snitch so to deflect suspicion from himself, he lies that Sandra was kissing Jeff. Dina promises revenge but Mateo says they should just stop talking to her. Garrett and Amy belittle the impact Jonah leaving would have on them and Cheyenne hides Halo items around the store. (♫ DRNG - Still Here ♫)

Dish girl!

Eugene has collected all the items Cheyenne has hidden and she can't stop him from re-stocking them. In the Break Room, Sandra enters and all conversation stops. She starts talking about a TV show when Dina screams at her that she's having an affair with Jeff. Everyone gasps and Garrett encourages her to talk. She looks around the room and she has everyone's attention. She launches into incredibly detailed and believable lies about her relationship with Jeff which evokes large reactions. Amy dares Jonah to cancel his college enrollment which he says is no big deal. Sandra is continuing with her stories which makes Mateo jealous. Everyone is rapt and no one cares that they think she was the snitch. Jonah invites Amy to Glenn's Office to cancel his enrollment but finds it already lapsed so he tries to get it re-activated (he was bluffing that he didn't care).

S02E11-Gang watches Sandra and Jeff

How did we never notice it?

Sadly, Cheyenne sees the last Halo baby item bought. A customer asks if it's all gone and has Cheyenne check the back. To her delight, Cheyenne finds the Warehouse full of Halo pallets. She lies to the customer that they are all sold out. Out of ear shot, a group of staff watch Sandra interact with Jeff who is asking her to clean up a puddle. Sandra laughs and acts flirtatiously with Jeff which confuses him but convinces everyone she is in a relationship with him. Mateo walks away in a huff. At the end of day, Rex hugs Jonah in the parking lot and says next time he's in town, they'll go for drinks. He introduces himself to Amy even though they've already met and then gets in his BMW. Having heard about Jonah's enrollment cancellation, Glenn hugs him and says he'll always have a place at the store and then leaps in the air and fist pumps.
